DESCRIPTION:The award winning community artwork and sound installation Bird Child Spirit is now at Yarra Valley ECOSS.  \nRunning every 20 mins from 2 pm to 7 pm\, Tuesday to Saturday\, Dec 7 to 23rd\, it’s an immersive multi-channel sound installation that features approximately 600 short recordings of children making bird sounds.  \nThe artist Peter Mcilwain\, who is an experienced composer\, has worked with children to make the sounds and has written software that generates an ongoing composition that you can enjoy in the gardens at ECOSS. \nAs part of the project the artist works with children from the local community wherever the installation is being presented. After editing\, the recordings are curated and included in the installation so it’s an ongoing evolving creative process. \nPeter will be at ECOSS each Friday during the markets and he’ll be happy to meet you and record new “birds” for the installation. Look for his stall in the market.  \nPeter has found that the best age group to work with is 8 to 12 years old. Parents will need to sign a recording release form. Peter has a Working With Children Check and has undertaken Yarra Ranges Child safe processes. \nPeter is a professional artist who has won a number of national and international awards including the major Yering Sculpture Award 2023 for Bird Child Spirit. DESCRIPTION:The award winning community artwork and sound installation Bird Child Spirit is now at Yarra Valley ECOSS.  \nRunning every 20 mins from 2 pm to 7 pm\, Tuesday to Saturday\, Dec 7 to 23rd\, it’s an immersive multi-channel sound installation that features approximately 600 short recordings of children making bird sounds.  \nThe artist Peter Mcilwain\, who is an experienced composer\, has worked with children to make the sounds and has written software that generates an ongoing composition that you can enjoy in the gardens at ECOSS. \nAs part of the project the artist works with children from the local community wherever the installation is being presented. After editing\, the recordings are curated and included in the installation so it’s an ongoing evolving creative process. \nPeter will be at ECOSS each Friday during the markets and he’ll be happy to meet you and record new “birds” for the installation. Look for his stall in the market.  \nPeter has found that the best age group to work with is 8 to 12 years old. Parents will need to sign a recording release form. SUMMARY:Bird Child Spirit - Award Winning Installation
DESCRIPTION:The award winning community artwork and sound installation Bird Child Spirit is now at Yarra Valley ECOSS.  \nRunning every 20 mins from 2 pm to 7 pm\, Tuesday to Saturday\, Dec 7 to 23rd\, it’s an immersive multi-channel sound installation that features approximately 600 short recordings of children making bird sounds.  \nThe artist Peter Mcilwain\, who is an experienced composer\, has worked with children to make the sounds and has written software that generates an ongoing composition that you can enjoy in the gardens at ECOSS. \nAs part of the project the artist works with children from the local community wherever the installation is being presented. DESCRIPTION:Welcome to 2024 Yarra Valley Spoken Word… \nMeeting monthly in the Dreaming Space Dome at ECOSS we have a wonderful line up of Feature Poets and Open Mic Opportunities to enjoy… \nThis month\, on Friday\, 9th February we are excited to be introducing Julie Dawson to the Dome. \nSome words from Julie: \nI’m a former wildlife conservationist who\, after eight years of working in anti-poaching and human-wildlife conflict resolution in Kenya\, reached a state of total burnout.  My return home has coincided with a return to self and the slow\, ongoing dissolution of the colonial structures my worldview is founded upon. After several years of therapeutic creative expression\, I am now emerging as a writer\, artist\, photographer and potter. \nMy return to creative practice began with photographing and writing with\, rather than about\, the natural world. I then began to make ink and paint from the plants and landscapes I was being drawn to photograph and write with. Ink and pigment making has become central to the way in which I re-story relationship with myself\, the earth and Country. SUMMARY:Yarra Valley Spoken Word March 2024 - Feature Poet Mel Gunner
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to welcome one of our favourite regular poets to be Feature Poet in March 2024! \nMel Gunner explores very deep themes\, using the humour she sees in everyday domestic situations. \nIn this performance\, Melissa will focus upon her personal and creative responses to a broad range of poets and poems.  She will attempt to share why reading great poetry\, analysing and writing your own poems can inspire a zest for life\, joy and humor. \nMelissa works in mental health and has a Masters degree in counselling and human services.  In her twenties\, she completed a drama degree\, including short story writing with Janette Turner Hospital. She also directed Shakespeare in outdoor settings\, worked in theatre in (environmental) education\,  performed and co-wrote Kafka’s for LaMama theatre and performed small roles on TV for Grundies and ABC.  She supported her children’s theatre interests by directing plays and wrote and directed the Festival of Good Children based on a Tolkien short story.
